The winning Topic Editors of the 2018 Spotlight Award are Dr Bernard Cohen, Dr Richard Lewis and Dr Jose Antonio Lopez-Escamez for their Research Topic Vestibular Contributions to Health and Disease.
Their research collection brings together powerful new methods for the diagnosis and treatment of common balance and orientation disorders. This includes the first-ever effective treatment for Mal de Debarquement Syndrome, where people continue to feel off-balance long after a boat, plane or lengthy car journey.
To date, the collection has received more than 80 citations, 70,000 views and 9,000 downloads. Research on a cure for MdDS has also been celebrated in The Washington Post.
The winning Topic Editors of the 2017 Spotlight Award were Professors Lebedev, Opris and Casanova for their Research Topic entitled Augmentation of Brain Function: Facts, Fiction and Controversy.
The project brought together 630 authors, publishing 149 papers and receiving more than 1.2 million views and downloads.
Their international conference Limitless! Augmentation of Brain Function took place at the SwissTech Convention Center in Switzerland in September. The event explored the latest findings in cognition augmentation and the future of brain enhancement.
