What is the Frontiers Spotlight Award?
The Frontiers Spotlight Award is an annual prize awarded to the most active, collaborative and impactful Research Topic. The award supports emerging fields of research and includes Research Topics from Frontiers’ full editorial program: life sciences, health, physical sciences and engineering, humanities and social sciences, and sustainability.
What is a Research Topic?
A Research Topic is a peer-reviewed article collection published around a specialized theme. Research Topics bring together leading researchers from different institutions, locations and fields of interest, who collaborate and contribute articles.
Who is eligible to win the Award?
The award is open to any Topic Editors with a Research Topic containing at least 10 articles and that closes within the award period. For instance, a Research Topic must be finalized by December 31, 2018 to be eligible for the 2019 Spotlight Award. Frontiers will automatically select eligible Topic collections for consideration. Topic Editors do not need to make any entry application.
What is the prize?
The winning team of Topic Editors receives US $100,000 to organize an international scientific conference on the theme of their successful Research Topic. Winners are supported with all aspects of the conference organization by the Frontiers Events Management team.
How is the winner selected?
Finalists are selected and judged on scientific and editorial excellence, international reach, subject novelty, and interdisciplinarity of their Research Topic. A shortlist of 10 finalists is compiled by Frontiers based on the full range of excellence and impact criteria, and representing a broad range of subject areas. This shortlist is then given to the Jury for the final choice of winner.
